How to Choose the Perfect Muhurat for Your Wedding
A comprehensive guide to selecting an auspicious marriage Muhurat using traditional Vedic criteria — Lagna, Tithi, Nakshatra, and Navamsha analysis.
What Makes a Good Marriage Muhurat?
A marriage Muhurat must satisfy several classical criteria to be considered highly auspicious. Jyotishis traditionally evaluate: the Lagna (rising sign), Tithi (lunar day), Nakshatra, the strength of Jupiter and Venus (natural significators of marriage), and the 7th house in the Muhurat chart.
Auspicious Tithis for Marriage
The 2nd, 3rd, 5th, 7th, 10th, 11th, and 13th Tithis of both Shukla and Krishna Paksha are considered favorable. Chaturdashi (14th), Amavasya (New Moon), and Purnima (Full Moon) Tithis are generally avoided for marriage ceremonies.
Best Nakshatras for Marriage
- Rohini
- Mrigashira
- Magha
- Uttara Phalguni
- Hasta
- Swati
- Anuradha
- Mula
- Uttara Ashadha
- Uttara Bhadrapada

Avoiding Inauspicious Periods
Marriages should avoid Rahu Kalam, Gulik Kalam, and Yamaghanta periods. The groom's Janam Rashi should not be the 8th from the Lagna of the Muhurat, and Jupiter must be free from combustion (at least 11° away from the Sun).
